{"id":12417,"date":"2020-03-06T10:44:50","date_gmt":"2020-03-06T15:44:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/?p=12417"},"modified":"2020-03-20T05:39:43","modified_gmt":"2020-03-20T10:39:43","slug":"wire-poe-cameras","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wire-poe-cameras\/","title":{"rendered":"How to wire PoE cameras"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you want to learn <strong>how to wire PoE cameras<\/strong>, you are in the right place.<\/p>\n<p><span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"How to wire IP cameras\" data-id=\"12511\" width=\"720\" height=\"157\" title=\"How to wire IP cameras\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/How-to-wire-IP-cameras.png\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There are different ways to power up an IP camera using Power over Ethernet and I will teach you all of them in this article, so just keep reading&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Just to make sure we are on the same page, I assume you know what PoE is but just in case you don&#8217;t just read the article that explains <a href=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/how-to-use-a-poe-switch-for-ip-camera\/\" style=\"outline: none;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">What is PoE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since PoE is part of an <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Power_over_Ethernet\" style=\"outline: none;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">international standard<\/a> you can find compliant devices available everywhere, which includes IP cameras, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/39vQey3\" style=\"outline: none;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PoE switches<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2TGiW8Q\" style=\"outline: none;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PoE Injectors<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You can also find NVRs (Network Video Recorders) that are PoE compliant and power the IP cameras that are directly connected to their port.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let&#8217;s start talking about this type of device.<\/p>\n<p>  [tcb-script async=&#8221;&#8221; src=&#8221;https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js&#8221;][\/tcb-script]  [tcb-script] (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); [\/tcb-script] <\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Power over Ethernet NVR<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The simplest way to wire a PoE camera is to connect it directly to a PoE NVR.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As you can see in the following diagram, it&#8217;s necessary only to use a UTP cable from the IP camera to the NVR which is also connected to a laptop.<\/p>\n<p><span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"How to wire IP cameras with an NVR\" data-id=\"12510\" width=\"720\" height=\"168\" title=\"How to wire IP cameras with an NVR\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/How-to-wire-IP-cameras-with-an-NVR.png\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The picture below shows an IP camera connected directly to an 8-port PoE NVR that uses the international standard <strong>802.3af<\/strong>, which means the device sends 48V (volts) to the camera which can consume a power of up to 12.95W (watts).<\/p>\n<p><span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"How to wire IP cameras with an NVR\" data-id=\"12506\" width=\"720\" height=\"321\" title=\"How to wire IP cameras with an NVR\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/How-to-wire-IP-cameras-with-a-NVR.png\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This type of connection is very simple and no extra equipment is required since there&#8217;s one port per camera and all of them use such as an international standard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">on the other hand, some other NVRs have only one network port and depend on a PoE switch to connect and power the IP cameras on.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The surveillance kit I&#8217;m using in this picture is manufactured by Zosi and you can find it on the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2TqXnu1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amazon store <\/a>usually for less than $200.<\/p>\n<p>  [tcb-script async=&#8221;&#8221; src=&#8221;https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js&#8221;][\/tcb-script]  [tcb-script] (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); [\/tcb-script] <\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Power over Ethernet Switch for IP cameras<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You can use a PoE switch to power up the IP cameras.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It&#8217;s a regular Ethernet switch used for computers, there&#8217;s nothing special.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The following picture shows a PoE camera connected to the switch which is also connected to a laptop using UTP (network) cables.<\/p>\n<p><span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"PoE Switch for IP camera\" data-id=\"12514\" width=\"720\" height=\"155\" title=\"PoE Switch for IP camera\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/PoE-Switch-for-IP-camera.png\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">How about the recording ?
