PTZ up-to-coax) was created to make the camera installation and setup much easier.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pelco.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pelco <\/a>was the first manufacturer to create and make this type of control popular.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The protocol was named Coaxitron and used to work only between Pelco cameras and DVRs <a href=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/cctv-dvr-digital-video-recorder\/\" style=\"outline: none;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(Digital Video Recorder)<\/a> until others start implementing it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After some time different cameras became compatible with the coaxitron protocol.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">How the PTZ camera coaxial control works<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pelco created a PTZ camera coaxial control standard to use only one cable to send video and data (commands) to the camera, thus reducing cables and costs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The idea is to stop using the old RS-485 standard that requires extra cables.<\/p>\n<p>With PTZ coaxial control the DVR can send such data to the cameras.<\/p>\n<p><span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"PTZ camera coaxial control diagram\" data-id=\"13039\" width=\"720\" height=\"291\" title=\"PTZ camera coaxial control diagram\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/PTZ-camera-coaxial-control-diagram.png\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As you can see in the diagram, the DVR works with its coaxial control protocol (CCVC) but is also compatible with <a href=\"https:\/\/support.pelco.com\/s\/article\/Pelco-Analog-PTZ-cameras-that-feature-coaxitron-control-1538586587281\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"outline: none;\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pelco Coaxitron<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this example, there&#8217;s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hanwhasecurity.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hanwha <\/a>DVR (former Samsung Techwin) which has its coaxial protocol.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Different ways to control a PTZ camera<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s possible to control a PTZ camera using a DVR or other devices such as joysticks and laptops or computers. As long as the main setup is working correctly.<\/p>\n<p>The diagram below shows an example of a PTZ camera coaxial control via joystick.<\/p>\n<p><span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"PTZ camera coaxial control via joystick\" data-id=\"13047\" width=\"750\" height=\"363\" title=\"PTZ camera coaxial control via joystick\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/PTZ-camera-coaxial-control-via-joystick.png\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The idea is very simple, as long as the DVR can control de PTZs cameras, other devices that connect with the DVR just a joystick can also control them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The joystick sends the commands to the DVR which re-transmit them to the cameras. The same happens with a computer as shown below:<\/p>\n<p><span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"PTZ camera coaxial control via computer\" data-id=\"13049\" width=\"720\" height=\"330\" title=\"PTZ camera coaxial control via computer\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/PTZ-camera-coaxial-control-via-computador.png\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Other security camera manufacturers also created a version of the PTZ camera coaxial control. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hikvision.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"outline: none;\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hikvision,&nbsp;<\/a>for example, offers its version of the protocol (based on a license from Pelco Coaxitron) and has an extra one called <a href=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/what-is-power-over-coax-poc-for-cctv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PoC (Power over Coax)<\/a> that sends power to the camera using coaxial cables.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">How to set up the PTZ camera coaxial control<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The PTZ camera coaxial control setup is very easy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Usually, the PTZ camera comes ready to work with the coaxial protocol.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You just need to get into the DVR menu and setup what protocol to use.<\/p>\n<p><span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision Coax protocol\" data-id=\"13054\" width=\"435\" height=\"275\" title=\"Hikvision Coax protocol\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Hikvision-Coax-protocol.png\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As you can see in the previous picture, the Hikvision-C protocol is available in the camera menu.
