“Hey Google, show the front camera on TV2<\/em>“. That’s nice, huh? \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

Reolink cameras that work with Google Home<\/h2>\n

Most of Reolink cameras work with Alexa <\/a>and Google Home Assistant<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I have the Reolink Argus PT<\/a> for this demonstration, but you can use the models:<\/p>\n

Argus 2<\/a>, Argus Eco<\/a>, Argus PT<\/a>, Reolink Lumus<\/a>, E1 Pro<\/a>, E1 Zoom<\/a> and E1<\/a><\/p>\n

Set up the camera to work with Google Home <\/h2>\n

To set up the Reolink camera to work with the Google Home Assistant <\/strong>you need to add the Reolink Smart Home and authenticate with your Reolink account.<\/p>\n

Here are the steps<\/p>\n

Enable the Reolink Smart Home<\/h3>\n

Make sure your camera is working with the Reolink App and enable the Smart Home feature in the cloud tab as shown below.<\/p>\n

Just click on the “Enable” button to turn on the Reolink Smart Home feature.<\/p>\n

\"Enable<\/span><\/p>\n

When people try to add the Reolink camera to the Google Home Assistant <\/a>or Alexa <\/a>without enable this option the camera won’t be “searchable”. That’s why this step is very important.<\/p>\n

After finishing this step can add the Reolink Smart Home to the Google Home app. Let’s see how to do that…<\/p>\n

Add the Reolink Camera to Google Home Assistant<\/h3>\n

1. Open the Google Home App and click the “+ <\/em><\/strong>“ <\/strong>button on the top left.<\/p>\n

2. Click “Set up device <\/strong><\/em>“;<\/p>\n

3. Click “Works with Google <\/strong><\/em>“;<\/p>\n

4. Search for “Reolink” and click “Reolink Smart Home <\/em><\/strong>“;<\/p>\n

\"Google<\/span>\"Google<\/span><\/p>\n

6. Login to the Reolink Account and click “Allow <\/strong><\/em>” for the device interaction.<\/p>\n

\"Reolink<\/span>\"Reolink<\/span><\/p>\n

And it’s done. Now you have your Reolink camera linked to Google Home.<\/p>\n

As you can see in the picture below, there’s a message (blue square) to inform you that the camera can stream video to devices with a display.<\/p>\n

It’s a good idea to change the camera name to something more friendly.<\/p>\n

Just click in the camera name and change it to “Front Door<\/strong>” for example.<\/p>\n

Testing the Reolink and Google Home Assistant connection<\/h2>\n

I have a Google Chromecast device connected to my TV.<\/p>\n

To make things easier I renamed the Reolink camera to “Front Door<\/strong><\/em>“.<\/p>\n

So I could ask “Hey Google, show the front door<\/em><\/strong>” and got the video on my TV \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

\"Reolink<\/span><\/p>\n

I noticed that the camera name still shows up as “Reolink Argus PT – Office” <\/strong><\/em>because that’s the real name that was given to the camera via Reolink App.<\/p>\n

So the camera name is independent between the Reolink App and Google Home.<\/p>\n

To change the name that is displayed on the screen use the Reolink App.<\/p>\n

Troubleshooting<\/h2>\n

If the Google Home App can’t find the camera, check the following:<\/p>\n

– Make sure all the devices are connected to the same network.<\/p>\n

– Use your Wi-Fi router to connect the camera, the Google Home and your mobile.<\/p>\n

– Check if the router has some <\/strong>firewall rule that is blocking the camera.<\/p>\n

If you are planning to buy a router, please consider a model that is compatible with Alexa such as the TP-Link AC1750 Smart WiFi Router<\/a>.<\/p>\n
