See the picture below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Hikvision camera to Monocle to Echo Show\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Hikvision-camera-to-Monocle-to-Echo-Show.jpg\" alt=\"Hikvision camera to Monocle to Echo Show\" width=\"719\" height=\"148\" data-id=\"19818\" data-init-width=\"934\" data-init-height=\"192\" data-width=\"719\" data-height=\"148\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">As you can see, the IP camera uses the <a href=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/what-is-rtsp-protocol-for-ip-cameras\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RTSP protocol <\/a>to stream the video to the Monocle server, which acts as a media gateway and relays the video to the Echo Show device. This process also works with the Fire Stick TV (all generations).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">The Monocle server is available on the Internet for Free when I&#8217;m writing this article, and you just need to create an account to start using the service.<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text;\">==&gt; You need to enter a username and password for the RTSP stream into the Monocle Server, so I recommend creating a new user on the camera with a different password. Please don&#8217;t use the admin account.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">It&#8217;s also recommended to use this procedure only with outdoors or public cameras that don&#8217;t expose your privacy; please don&#8217;t take any unnecessary risks.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Setup for differente devices<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">You need to use a different setup, depending on the Amazon device you have.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Some cameras and Amazon devices require an extra step to stream the video using encryption communication between your Alexa devices and your IP cameras.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Let me explain the difference between those setups.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Setup 01: Basic Gateway Service<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">This setup works with the IP cameras streaming directly to the Monocle gateway and them to your Echo Show device or Fire Stick TV, as shown below.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Hikvision IP camera to Monocle to Echo Show\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Hikvision-IP-camera-to-Monocle-to-Echo-Show.jpg\" alt=\"Hikvision IP camera to Monocle to Echo Show\" width=\"719\" height=\"173\" data-id=\"19841\" data-init-width=\"801\" data-init-height=\"192\" data-width=\"719\" data-height=\"173\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">This process is straightforward; you just need to create an account on the Monocle website, enter the information about your camera, and install\/setup the Alexa skill.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Don&#8217;t worry; I will come back to that later and show the step-by-step process.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Setup 02: Gateway Service with Tunnel<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Some IP cameras and Amazon devices models need to use an especial setup with a tunnel configuration; take a look at the following illustration.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Hikvision IP camera to Monocle to Echo Show with Tunnel\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Hikvision-IP-camera-to-Monocle-to-Echo-Show-with-tunnel.jpg\" alt=\"Hikvision IP camera to Monocle to Echo Show with Tunnel\" width=\"719\" height=\"286\" data-id=\"19848\" data-init-width=\"940\" data-init-height=\"374\" data-width=\"719\" data-height=\"286\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">This setup complicate things a little bit, but you can still make it work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">I used this setup with my Hikvision Mini PTZ camera streaming video to an Amazon <a style=\"outline: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/33rCDGv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Echo Show 5<\/a>, a <a style=\"outline: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3khYNBL\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fire Stick TV<\/a>, and a <a style=\"outline: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2FynKKe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fire Stick TV 4K<\/a>. It worked pretty fine.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Hikvision Camera With Echo Show (Basic Setup)<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">OK, it&#8217;s time to show you how to set up a Hikvision camera with Echo Show.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">As I said before, the setup is different depending on the device&#8217;s models you have.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Later on this article, you can find a compatibility table, but now let&#8217;s just learn how to do the basic setup since it&#8217;s required anyway, even if you need to use the second setup with the encrypted tunnel. So let&#8217;s dive into the configuration.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Create a Monocle Account<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Visit the <a style=\"outline: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/monoclecam.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Monocle Website<\/a> and create a free account.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">By the time I&#8217;m writing this article, the service is in beta version.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Monocle website\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Monocle-website.jpg\" alt=\"Monocle website\" width=\"462\" height=\"285\" data-id=\"19859\" data-init-width=\"613\" data-init-height=\"378\" data-width=\"462\" data-height=\"285\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">By the time I&#8217;m writing this article, the service is in beta version.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Monocle create new account\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Monocle-create-new-account.jpg\" alt=\"Monocle create new account\" width=\"476\" height=\"622\" data-id=\"19861\" data-init-width=\"476\" data-init-height=\"622\" data-width=\"476\" data-height=\"622\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Make sure you enter the correct email to receive the confirmation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Monocle email confirmation\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Monocle-email-confirmation.jpg\" alt=\"Monocle email confirmation\" width=\"476\" height=\"195\" data-id=\"19863\" data-init-width=\"701\" data-init-height=\"288\" data-width=\"476\" data-height=\"195\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Click to confirm the account creation and move to the next step.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Set up the camera video stream<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">You need to get the camera information to set up the Monocle&#8217;s camera feed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Log in to your camera to check the configuration and change it if necessary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">The picture below shows the example of my Hikvision Mini PTZ camera.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Hikvision Substream configuration\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Hikvision-Substream-configuration.jpg\" alt=\"Hikvision Substream configuration\" width=\"719\" height=\"541\" data-id=\"19868\" data-init-width=\"725\" data-init-height=\"545\" data-width=\"719\" data-height=\"541\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">At first, you can use the second video stream available in the camera; you can find it in the &#8220;<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Video\/Audio<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8221; menu under the &#8220;<\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Stream Type<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8221; drop-down box.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Sub-stream is available on an IP camera for remote device access.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It&#8217;s a good idea to try it first before moving to the main stream.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">During the set up for my Hikvision camera, this configuration worked correctly for the Echo Show and the Fire TV Stick. Pay attention to the resolution and the Video encoding properties; use\u00a0<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">H.264 f<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">or video encoding with the\u00a0<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Main Profile<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>==&gt; New Hikvision cameras come with the <strong>H.265<\/strong> CODEC, do <strong>NOT <\/strong>use it.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Create a second user on the camera<\/h3>\n<p style=\"cursor: text;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Don&#8217;t use the camera&#8217;s admin account for the Monocle configuration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You are leaving sensitive information on somebody else&#8217;s server, so it&#8217;s better to think carefully about security and create a second user that has only live view privileges and can&#8217;t cause any harm to your camera. You got the idea, right?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Create an operator user with limited privilegies as shown below.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Hikvision IP camera add user operator\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Hikvision-IP-camera-add-user-operator.jpg\" alt=\"Hikvision IP camera add user operator\" width=\"561\" height=\"774\" data-id=\"19876\" data-init-width=\"561\" data-init-height=\"774\" data-width=\"561\" data-height=\"774\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You don&#8217;t need to change other camera configurations; I&#8217;ve seen people talking about enabling the ONVIF protocol and changing the authentication from Digest to Basic and other stuff. It&#8217;s not necessary, and you are putting your camera at risk. Hikvision cameras use to work as described in this article.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The next step is to get all the necessary information for the configuration.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Get the camera information<\/h3>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You need to get all the information to enter into the Monocle server.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Camera IP Address<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">RTSP port number (usually 554)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">RTSP URL<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">I believe you know where to find the camera&#8217;s IP address, right?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Anyway, just in case, see below an example of the menu where you can find it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Hikvision IP Address\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Hikvision-IP-Address.jpg\" alt=\"Hikvision IP Address\" width=\"691\" height=\"249\" data-id=\"19884\" data-init-width=\"691\" data-init-height=\"249\" data-width=\"691\" data-height=\"249\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Most IP cameras come with the universal RTSP port number 554.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hikvision cameras are not different, so it shouldn&#8217;t be a problem.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The picture below shows where you can check this information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Hikvision RTSP port number\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Hikvision-RTSP-port-number.jpg\" alt=\"Hikvision RTSP port number\" width=\"694\" height=\"250\" data-id=\"19887\" data-init-width=\"694\" data-init-height=\"250\" data-width=\"694\" data-height=\"250\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">And finaly, you need to have the RTSP UTL for your camera.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This information is different for every manufacturer; I have an article to find an\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"outline: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/ip-camera-rtsp-url-list-for-blue-iris-and-other-software\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">RTSP UTL list<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0for the most popular ones. See below the RTSP URL for Hikvision. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">rtsp:\/\/&lt;camera IP&gt;:554\/Streaming\/Channels\/102<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">For my example, I&#8217;m using r<strong>tsp:\/\/192.168.0.64:554\/Streaming\/Channels\/102<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Note I&#8217;m using the streaming number 2 from the camera (substream) and that&#8217;s the reason the last parameter is 102.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">OK, now that you have all the information, let&#8217;s move on to the Monocle set up.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Monocle set up for the Hikvision camera<\/h3>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Log in to the Monocle portal and click on &#8220;<em>Add Camera Feed<\/em>&#8220;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Monocle add camera\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Monocle-add-camera.jpg\" alt=\"Monocle add camera\" width=\"719\" height=\"187\" data-id=\"19898\" data-init-width=\"720\" data-init-height=\"187\" data-width=\"719\" data-height=\"187\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; (I did work for me).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left; cursor: text;\">Troubleshooting<\/h2>\n<p style=\"cursor: text;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Sometimes things just go wrong.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The first time I attempted to use my Hikvsision camera on Alexa, I got the message, &#8220;<\/span><strong><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hmmm, the camera isn&#8217;t responding<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">That usually happens because the gateway is not running, or some other problems are related to the configuration. Please check the following.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"cursor: text;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Is the camera using the correct camera IP address?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: text;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Is the RTSP camera port correct (554)?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: text;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Are you using the correct RTSP URL command?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: text;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Did you create a user with the correct privileges on the camera?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: text;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Is the camera using the correct CODEC (H.264)?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: text;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Is the camera resolution correct?
