{"id":25681,"date":"2021-06-11T11:44:55","date_gmt":"2021-06-11T16:44:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/?p=25681"},"modified":"2021-06-11T11:44:55","modified_gmt":"2021-06-11T16:44:55","slug":"contacam-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/contacam-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Contacam Review [Free IP camera software]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In this article, I&nbsp;<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">review&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">the&nbsp;<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Contacam<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;Free IP camera software.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The software is a good fit for people on a budget and who don&#8217;t want to expend money with&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/blue-iris-software-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Blue Iris<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;but still use something simpler than&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/free-vms-software-luxriot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Luxriot Evo<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Yeah, the Contacam software is Free, but there are some cons (more on that later).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Let&#8217;s dive into the details&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\" style=\"\">Contacam works with webcams and IP cameras<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">You can use the software to record videos from your&nbsp;<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">webcam&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">or&nbsp;<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">IP cameras<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;that use the&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/what-is-rtsp-protocol-for-ip-cameras\/\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"outline: none;\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">RTSP protocol<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. Unfortunately, the software does NOT work with all camera models.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">So, you can convert your laptop to a&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/turn-your-web-cam-into-a-security-camera-or-spy-camera\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">spy camera&nbsp;<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">or use a camera connected to your PC as a surveillance camera. I tested my Canon DSLR camera, and it worked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">You can also use virtual cameras from OBS. Pretty cool, huh?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">So, here&#8217;s the summary of the cameras that work with Contacam.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\"><strong>Webcam<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\"><strong>IP cameras&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\"><strong>OBS Virtual cameras<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>USB webcams<\/strong>&nbsp;with Windows drivers (WDM drivers).<\/li>\n<li><strong>DV<\/strong>&nbsp;cameras on the firewire port.<\/li>\n<li><strong>PCI, PCIe and USB capture devices<\/strong> with Windows drivers (WDM drivers).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Here&#8217;s a quick example of the Contacam working with my Hikvision Camera and with my webcam. Software development does cost money.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">But don&#8217;t worry, the software still works with all the features, and you only get the text on the bottom of the screen. There&#8217;s no version for Apple users.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Software Installation and Setup<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">The software installation and setup are pretty simple.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">It&#8217;s the traditional &#8220;Next, Next, Finish&#8221; procedure&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Contacam installation\" data-id=\"25709\" width=\"497\" data-init-width=\"497\" height=\"383\" data-init-height=\"383\" title=\"Contacam installation\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Contacam-installation.png\" data-width=\"497\" data-height=\"383\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">After the installation, you just need to add the camera.<\/p>\n<p>The software finds the webcam pretty easy, you just need to select it.<\/p>\n<p>To add an IP camera, click the add menu and select &#8220;Network\/IP Camera&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Enter the camera IP, RTSP Port, Username and Password.<\/p>\n<p><span><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Add camera menu\" data-id=\"25711\" width=\"275\" data-init-width=\"275\" height=\"194\" data-init-height=\"194\" title=\"Add camera menu\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Add-camera-menu.png\" data-width=\"275\" data-height=\"194\"><\/span><span><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Add IP camera to Contacam\" data-id=\"25712\" width=\"300\" data-init-width=\"352\" height=\"420\" data-init-height=\"493\" title=\"Add IP camera to Contacam\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Add-IP-camera-to-Contacam.jpg\" data-width=\"300\" data-height=\"420\" style=\"\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The standard most common RTSP port is 554.<\/p>\n<p>And then&#8230; your camera goes live !<\/p>\n<p><span><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"IP camera working in the Contacam Software\" data-id=\"25716\" width=\"710\" data-init-width=\"710\" height=\"572\" data-init-height=\"572\" title=\"IP camera working in the Contacam Software\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/IP-camera-working-in-the-contacam.jpg\" data-width=\"710\" data-height=\"572\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">You can select the sensitivity to record only when motion is detected, choose continuous recording or disable the recording.<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">The files are recorded in the C: &gt; Contacam folder.<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">There&#8217;s a structured way to save the files according to camera name and date.<\/p>\n<p><span><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Contacam saved files folder\" data-id=\"25718\" width=\"719\" data-init-width=\"720\" height=\"260\" data-init-height=\"260\" title=\"Contacam saved files folder\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Contacam-saved-files-folder.jpg\" data-width=\"719\" data-height=\"260\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">As you can see, the folder contains the recorded footage and screenshots.<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">The software also generates gif files with a summary of the videos&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">It&#8217;s small but enough to see the activity.
