Reolink RLC-510WA Overview<\/h2>\n

The Reolink RLC-510WA<\/strong> is a wireless security camera with person\/vehicle motion detection feature. It is weatherproof and has IR LEDs for night vision.<\/p>\n

The camera has 5MP  resolution, audio recording, and it works with Alexa and Google Assistant to display videos using voice commands.<\/p>\n

\"Reolink<\/span>\"Reolink<\/span><\/p>\n

The camera works with 2.4<\/strong> and 5Ghz<\/strong> which is a HUGE advantage compared to other models available in the market (more on that later).<\/p>\n

It this camera good?<\/h2>\n

I had a good first impression of this, so I started testing it right away.<\/p>\n

 It’s easy to set up and comes with interesting features that are very useful for real-world applications. For that tag price? Yeah… It’s good enough.<\/p>\n

Reolink manufactures good consumer cameras and the RLC-510WA  is not different; but you can get to that conclusion by yourself after reading the article.<\/p>\n

What is on the box<\/h2>\n

The RLC-510WA comes ready for installation.<\/p>\n

\"Reolink<\/span><\/p>\n

The box brings the camera, two wireless antennas, a power supply, a UTP (network) cable, a power cable extension, plastic anchors, installation screws, weatherproof cable protectors, installation template and stickers.<\/p>\n

The RLC-510WA Camera<\/h2>\n

And here’s the camera, with its two Wi-Fi antennas.<\/p>\n

\"Reolink<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The camera is small and well-designed. In the front part, there’s a lens and the IR LEDs for night vision up to 164 feet away (according to the manufacturer).<\/p>\n

In the bottom of the camera, there’s a QR code for easy installation.<\/p>\n

The camera back<\/h3>\n

In the back part of the camera, there are connection for the two Wi-Fi antennas and a micro SD car slot as shown in the picture below.<\/p>\n

\"Reolink<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

You can either record the videos into the micro SD card or to a Reolink NVR<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Reolink RLC-510WA features<\/h2>\n

Let’s take a look at some of the camera features.<\/p>\n

Camera resolution<\/h3>\n

The camera can capture images with resolution of up to 5MP<\/strong>, which means you can see details in record videos and use the digital zoom without two much pixelation.<\/p>\n

\"Reolink<\/span><\/p>\n

At the maximum resolution (2560 x 1920)  the camera uses a 4:3 aspect ratio.<\/p>\n

Take a look at this image; it’s possible to see details even with the light contrast.<\/p>\n

I turned the camera “Dynamic Range” feature to improve the image.<\/p>\n

Weatherproof<\/h3>\n

The RLC-510WA 3 is weatherproof<\/strong> so you can install it outdoor and it won’t have any problem with rain. It’s IP66 rated<\/strong> (which means it complies with the international standard for dust and water protection).<\/p>\n

Audio recording<\/h3>\n

The camera has a microphone that allows you to hear and record the audio.<\/p>\n

I’ve tested this feature, and it works pretty well, I can hear the ambient sound in a room withot any problem. The audio is good enough for such an application. <\/p>\n

Alert notification<\/h3>\n

The Reolink Argus 3 can send notification via email and push notification.<\/p>\n

\"Camera<\/span><\/p>\n

The email alerts include the picture of the event (motion detection).<\/p>\n

SD Card Recording<\/h3>\n

You can use a micro SD card to record the videos.<\/p>\n

 I recommend you to buy a class 10 micro SD card<\/a> to avoid problems.<\/p>\n

\"Sandisk<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Just stick the card into the camera and turn on the recording.<\/p>\n

You can set the Pre ad Post-Motion Recording which gives you extra footage  before and after the event that triggered the recording. <\/p>\n

Wi-Fi connection<\/h3>\n

The camera can connect to 2.4GHz<\/strong> and 5GHz<\/strong> Wi-Fi routers.<\/p>\n

That’s very interesting because most of the WiFi cameras only connect to the 2.4GHz networks which sometimes could be a problem with congested networks.<\/p>\n

The 5GHz frequency has more channels available and it’s considered more clean.<\/p>\n

I’ve tested both frequencies sand I noticed the difference when using 5GHz<\/strong> which works better because I can use channels my neighbors are not using.<\/p>\n

Reolink multiple stream<\/h3>\n

This Reolink camera allows the configuration of two different video streams.<\/p>\n

You can have a high-resolution video stream and a second one with lower quality. <\/p>\n

You can choose each one to use to use to save bandwidth.<\/p>\n

Reolink calls them Clear <\/strong>and Fluent <\/strong>as shown below.<\/p>\n

\"Reolink<\/span><\/p>\n

The camera works better according to configuration and the resource available (bandwidth and storage).<\/p>\n

When you choose the Fluent option the video quality is sacrified so the camera can work better with the transmission over mobile devices that are using cellular data.<\/p>\n

When connected to a Wi-Fi router the high-quality stream can be used for local access and recoding to a NVR or server.<\/p>\n

Alexa and Google Home Assistant integration<\/h3>\n

The Reolink RLC-510WA <\/strong>integrates and works with Alexa <\/a>and Google Home<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This feature allows you to ask Alexa or Google to display the video from the camera to devices such as the Amazon Fire Stick or Google Chrome. <\/p>\n

You can just ask Alexa or Google to display the image on a TV or other display.<\/p>\n

The Pros and Cons of the Reolink RLC-510WA<\/h2>\n

OK, it’s time to talk about the pros and cons of the camera.<\/p>\n

      Conclusion:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      The Reolink RLC-510WA is an excellent camera.<\/p>\n

      I definitely think it’s a good consumer product for the price.<\/p>\n

      You can use it indoor\/outdoor and record to a Reolink NVR.<\/p>\n
