As you can see, there&#8217;s a connector labeled &#8220;<\/span><strong><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">RS-485<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8221; in the device on the right side; this is an international standard for communication between devices.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">The standard protocols<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">The analog PTZ camera and the device can use the <strong>RS-485 <\/strong>standard and a common protocol for communication; the most common one is the <strong>Pelco D<\/strong> protocol.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">This article focuses on a <strong>Pelco analog PTZ camera<\/strong> connected to an <strong>Axis encoder<\/strong>; however, the same principle applies to different manufacturers. As long as they use the same RS-485 and communication protocol on both sides, everything works.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">The communication parameters<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Alright, it&#8217;s necessary to use the same standard and protocol for communication, but there&#8217;s something else you need to pay attention to&#8230; Which communication parameters are set on both devices (encoder and camera).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">It&#8217;s very simple; you have to make sure the parameter match on both devices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Here are the parameters I&#8217;m talking about.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Baud rate<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Data bits<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Stop bits<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Parity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">You don&#8217;t need to worry too much about what they mean. This type of connection varies for different products.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Be aware that this example is for <strong>Axis\/Pelco<\/strong> and can be different if you are using another encoder or camera. There&#8217;s no standard for the connectors naming.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Please read the device&#8217;s manual to understand how to connect the wires.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Most of the time, you just need to use the camera the way it came from the factory.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">If you have more than one unit, it&#8217;s necessary to change the IDs because each camera has to be uniquely addressed so the encoder can reach it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Write down the information before configuring the Axis encoder.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">The camera setup<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">To configure the Axis encoder to work with the Pelco camera, you just need to enter all the parameters according to the information you got from the OSD.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Once the COM port is enabled and using the correct parameters, you just need to choose the correct PTZ driver for the camera and set the device ID.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;
