Let&#8217;s take a look at a list&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Check the RS-485 wiring to make sure they are correct;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Make sure the communication parameters are matching;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Download the correct PTZ driver for your camera model;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Double-check if the correct camera ID is being used.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">If you have everything from this list in order, you will be able to make your PTZ camera work with the Axis encoder. It&#8217;s not that complicated.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Wiring connection<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">The following diagram shows an example of the camera connected to an encoder.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Axis Encoder Connected to Pelco Camera\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Axis-Encoder-Connected-to-Pelco-Camera.jpg\" alt=\"Axis Encoder Connected to Pelco Camera\" width=\"719\" height=\"217\" data-id=\"26505\" data-init-width=\"1590\" data-init-height=\"480\" data-width=\"719\" data-height=\"217\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">As you can see, the <strong>PTZ camera<\/strong> has the <strong>RX-\/RX+<\/strong> connector that are correctly wired to the Axis encoder. The information about the way it should be connected is found in the camera&#8217;s manufacturer user manual.<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">In this example you can see a <strong>Pelco PTZ <\/strong>camera but it&#8217;s usually different for other brands such as Samsung, Bosch, Panasonic, Hikvision, etc,<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Communication parameters<\/h3>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">The camera and encoder communicate using a standard parameters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">It&#8217;s necessary to have all the communication parameters set correctly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">Here they are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">Baud Rate<\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">Data Bits<\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">Stop Bits<\/li>\n<li style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">Parity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">You really don&#8217;t need to understand every single details about those parameters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">The camera and the encoder just need to agree on using the same communication speed (Baud Rate) and also agree on how to send\/receive chunks of data.<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">Can you see the parameters are matching ???<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">Take a look at the Pelco camera parameters: <strong>2400, N, 8, 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">Yes, they are matching, so you are good here.<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">Of course if you are not using a Pelco camera, just look for the information somewhere in the camera&#8217;s user manual or ask the manufacturer.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">PTZ camera drivers<\/h3>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">Your encoder and PTZ camera need to talk the same language.<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">That means your encoder needs to use a driver that contains the information on how to speak the &#8220;<em>camera language<\/em>&#8221; since every manufacturer has a different protocol, you need to download the correct one.<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">You can download the PTZ drivers from the Axis website or FTP server.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify; cursor: text;\">Download from the website<\/h4>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">To download from the web site, go to <a style=\"outline: none;\" href=\"http:\/\/classic.www.axis.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">classic.www.axis.com<\/a> look for the product page and click the &#8220;Support &amp; Documentation&#8221; tab and then look for the Firmware section.<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">Click the arrow on the right side to extend the menu and see the <strong>PTZ drivers<\/strong> link.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Axis PTZ Driver Download Page\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Axis-PTZ-Driver-Download-Page.jpg\" alt=\"Axis PTZ Driver Download Page\" width=\"719\" height=\"714\" data-id=\"27438\" data-init-width=\"887\" data-init-height=\"880\" data-width=\"719\" data-height=\"714\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">A new page with the driver is pops up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; text-align: justify;\">Here you can select the manufacturer and click to download the PTZ driver.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Video encoder PTZ Drivers\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Video-encoder-PTZ-Drivers.jpg\" alt=\"Video encoder PTZ Drivers\" width=\"719\" height=\"353\" data-id=\"27442\" data-init-width=\"854\" data-init-height=\"419\" data-width=\"719\" data-height=\"353\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text; cursor: text;\">Upload the PTZ driver to the encoder<\/h4>\n<p style=\"cursor: text;\">And now, you just need to upload the driver to the Encoder.<\/p>\n<p style=\"cursor: text;\">Click on <strong>Setup <\/strong>&gt;&gt;
