In this article I explain how to reset the Amcrest DVR <\/strong>If you lost the password and don’t know how to login as administrator.<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s a simple process, you can execute the Amcrest 960h DVR factory reset in only a few minutes to restore the password.<\/span><\/p>\n

This reset procedure works for the <\/strong><\/span>Amcrest 960H DVR<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a> and takes it to the manufacturer default settings, so you can use the original password.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amcrest 960H DVR password reset<\/h2>\n

Just open your Amcrest DVR and look for a reset button located close to the processor heat sink (see the picture below for details).<\/span><\/p>\n

To reset the Amcrest DVR just follow the steps:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Turn ON <\/strong>the DVR;<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Press and hold this button until you hear a “beep” sound;<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Wait until a Setup Wizard shows up on the screen;<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Create a new password for the DVR’s admin account;<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Follow the Setup Wizard to finish the initial setup. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    After following these steps, your Amcrest DVR will be ready to work again.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Are the data (videos) erased after the reset? <\/h2>\n

    According to the manufacturer, all data stored in the DVR are wiped out during the reset process. however, some users have reported that the data is still there after resetting the DVR. So there’s a chance to still keep the data.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Does this process work for any Amcrest DVR?<\/h2>\n

    No. This reset procedure is for the Amcrest 960H DVR that is designed to work with the traditional analog cameras (see the DVR’s picture below).<\/span><\/p>\n

    This reset procedure does NOT <\/strong>work with the  Amcrest DVRs that use the HDCVI cameras<\/strong> (high-resolution analog cameras).<\/span><\/p>\n

    Troubleshooting after the reset process<\/h2>\n

    Sometimes, you can face some problems after resetting a DVR.<\/span><\/p>\n

    If that’s your case, take a look at the troubleshooting tips below:<\/span><\/p>\n

    The screen is blank after the Amcrest DVR reset<\/h3>\n

    If you see a blank screen or the “No Signal<\/em>” message on the monitor after resetting your Amcrest DVR that could indicate a problem related to the cable connection or incorrect resolution setup.<\/span><\/p>\n

    After resetting the DVR to factory default, the resolution can come back to  VGA <\/strong>and perhaps your monitor is not compatible with this low resolution.<\/span><\/p>\n
