Let&#8217;s talk about how that works.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"NVR Hikvision\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" title=\"NVR Hikvision\" data-id=\"5474\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/NVR-Hikvision.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There are a huge number of different IP cameras and NVR in the market, but the principle of IP camera and NVR configuration is similar to most of them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In this article, I explain <strong>how to configure Hikvision IP camera with NVR <\/strong>model DS-7616NI-I2-16P-4k-POE, which is a 16 channel device for 4K IP cameras.<\/p>\n<p>[tcb-script async=&#8221;&#8221; src=&#8221;\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js&#8221;][\/tcb-script][tcb-script](adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});[\/tcb-script]<\/p>\n<h2>The Hikvision NVR DS-7616NI-I2-16P-4k-POE<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The first thing you have to do is to understand your device, so let&#8217;s take a look at the specification of the Hikvision NVR.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision NVR DS-7616ni-i2-16p-4k-poe\" width=\"720\" height=\"169\" title=\"Hikvision NVR DS-7616ni-i2-16p-4k-poe\" data-id=\"5453\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-NVR-DS-7616ni-i2-16p-4k-poe.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is a <strong>16 channel NVR<\/strong>, which means it can handle up to 16 4K resolution IP cameras that can be directly connected to the device using UTP cables.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">People usually buy the NVR and the cameras from the same manufacturer, but it&#8217;s not mandatory to use the same brand since most of the modern IP cameras have the <strong>ONVIF protocol<\/strong> which allows the communication between different brands,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I strongly recommend you to read the <a href=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/onvif-protocol-the-benefits-and-drawbacks\" target=\"_blank\">article about the ONVIF protocol<\/a> to understand how it works in case you want to use different IP camera brands.<\/p>\n<p>[tcb-script async=&#8221;&#8221; src=&#8221;\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js&#8221;][\/tcb-script][tcb-script]     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});[\/tcb-script]<\/p>\n<h2>Hikvision NVR DS-7616NI-I2-16P-4k-POE Back part<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Take a look at the following picture which shows the details of the Hikvision NVR, you can see all the connections in the back part of the device.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision NVR back part\" width=\"720\" height=\"332\" title=\"Hikvision NVR back part\" data-id=\"5460\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-NVR-connections.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the left side, it&#8217;s possible to see the 16 Ethernet ports that are used to connect the cameras. Those ports use PoE (Power Over Ethernet) to power up the cameras. It&#8217;s not necessary to use an extra power supply.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(Please read the article: <a href=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/how-to-use-a-poe-switch-for-ip-camera\" target=\"_blank\">PoE switch for IP cameras <\/a>to learn more)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The next connections available are for <strong>Audio IN\/OUT<\/strong>, which can be used to connect a microphone and a speaker respectively. Most of the time, people don&#8217;t use such connections because the NVR can use the audio from the IP cameras.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>I\/O port <\/strong>is used to connect to sensors and to activate external devices, you can connect a door sensor for example that will send a signal to the NVR that can trigger events such as camera recording, email notifications, etc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Based on events, such as motion detection and others. the NVR can also turn on\/off a light, a buzzer or something else that is connected to the output port.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>VGA and HDMI <\/strong>ports are used to connect monitors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A <strong>USB port<\/strong> is available for the NVR firmware upgrade and to export recorded footage into a thumb drive.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There is a<strong> LAN Port t<\/strong>o connect the NVR to the network, so you can have remote access from a computer, laptop or mobile device. This port is usually connected to a network switch or a router which is connected to the Internet.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[tcb-script async=&#8221;&#8221; src=&#8221;\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js&#8221;][\/tcb-script][tcb-script]     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});[\/tcb-script]<\/p>\n<h2>Hikvision NVR Network Diagram<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">See the following diagram which shows the DVR connection in the network.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision NVR Network Diagram\" width=\"720\" height=\"362\" title=\"Hikvision NVR Network Diagram\" data-id=\"5468\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-NVR-Network-Diagram.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the left side, you can see a <strong>Hikvision IP camera<\/strong> connected to one of the PoE ports, it&#8217;s not necessary to use an individual power supply to the camera since it&#8217;s power up via the network cable (using Power over Ethernet).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The idea is to connect all other IP cameras exactly the same way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A network cable is connected to the NVR <strong>LAN port<\/strong> and to the <strong>router<\/strong>, which allows remote access to the device via laptop. It&#8217;s also possible to have access to the NVR via the Internet since the router is linked to an Internet Service Provider (ISP).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The diagram shows the network connection, obviously, you need also to connect the power cable (which comes with the device) to power up the NVR.<\/p>\n<p>[tcb-script async=&#8221;&#8221; src=&#8221;\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js&#8221;][\/tcb-script][tcb-script](adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});[\/tcb-script]<\/p>\n<h2>Hikvision NVR Initial Setup<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After connecting the NVR and the IP camera, it&#8217;s time to start the setup.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It&#8217;s easier to connect a <strong>monitor and a mouse<\/strong> to the NVR for the initial configuration and later you can use your laptop for additional configuration.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">See the picture below which shows the front part of the NVR with the power LED and the hard drive LED on. A USB mouse is connected to the device.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision NVR mouse connection\" width=\"720\" height=\"154\" title=\"Hikvision NVR mouse connection\" data-id=\"5476\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-NVR-mouse-connection.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After connecting the mouse and monitor, just power up the device and look at the screen, the first thing that appears is the Hikvision logo, that indicates that the NVR is booting up. (see the picture below).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision NVR initial screen\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" title=\"Hikvision NVR initial screen\" data-id=\"5477\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-NVR-initial-screen.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the next screen, just choose the language and click the <strong>Apply <\/strong>button.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision NVR language setup\" width=\"720\" height=\"303\" title=\"Hikvision NVR language setup\" data-id=\"5479\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-NVR-language-setup.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The next step is to create a password. Just do it and click <strong>OK.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision NVR password\" width=\"720\" height=\"358\" title=\"Hikvision NVR password\" data-id=\"5482\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-NVR-password-1.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You can also create an unlock pattern to secure the NVR.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision NVR unlock pattern\" width=\"720\" height=\"277\" title=\"Hikvision NVR unlock pattern\" data-id=\"5483\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-NVR-unlock-pattern.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Hikvision NVR Wizard Setup<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After the initial setup, you can use a Wizard Setup for the next steps.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Just follow the instructions and move to the next screen until you get to the end of the process. It&#8217;s really very easy, take a look at the following pictures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>1st step <\/strong>is to configure the timezone, just the one you want and click next.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision NVR wizard 01  timezone\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" title=\"Hikvision NVR wizard 01- timezone\" data-id=\"5487\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-NVR-wizard-01-timezone.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>2nd step&nbsp;<\/strong>is to configure the NIC (Network interface card) with the correct IP, just choose the IP that is in your local network range.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let&#8217;s say for example that your computer has the IP 192.168.1.1. You can choose the IP 192.168.1.x for your NVR and replace the X with the number 2 to 254 as long as no other device is using the same IP on your network.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision NVR wizard 02 NIC\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" title=\"Hikvision NVR wizard 02 NIC\" data-id=\"5488\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-NVR-wizard-02-NIC.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the&nbsp;<strong>3rd<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;step&nbsp;<\/strong>just check if the hard drive is OK.
