Just log into the DVR using a telnet client software and delete an internal file. Please check if that&#8217;s your case.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>How the DVR reset process works<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">OK, a quick overview of the process&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The DVR uses the <strong>Linux operating system<\/strong> to execute its task (just like your computer uses Windows or MAC OS). You just need to interact with the Linux and remove the config.dat file that holds the DVR configuration.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You need a software to be able to connect to the DVR and send it the necessary command to accomplish this task. Click the link below to visit the download page.<\/p>\n<p>[tcb-script async=&#8221;&#8221; src=&#8221;\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js&#8221;][\/tcb-script][tcb-script]     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});[\/tcb-script]<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/download-putty\/\" target=\"_blank\">Click here to download<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Using the Telnet software<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>On Windows, just press run the <strong>Putty <\/strong>Telnet Software.<\/p>\n<p><span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Putty on Windows\" style=\"width: 424px;\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Putty-icon.jpg\" width=\"399\" height=\"162\" data-attachment-id=\"7420\" title=\"Putty on Windows\" data-id=\"6302\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Enter the IP address of the DVR (192.168.1.2 in our example) and check the option telnet as shown in the picture below. Then click &#8220;<strong><em>Open<\/em><\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Putty\" width=\"461\" height=\"456\" title=\"Putty\" data-id=\"6304\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Putty.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The software communicates with the DVR. After entering the&nbsp;<strong>username and a password&nbsp;<\/strong>you can have access to the operating system to view the files in the directories and files. So you just need to remove one of them.<\/p>\n<p>The picture below shows the first screen you see.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Telnet 01\" style=\"width: 100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Telnet-01.jpg\" width=\"516\" height=\"314\" data-attachment-id=\"7421\" title=\"Telnet 01\" data-id=\"6306\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After the connection, a user and a password are requested. For this model, a password is not set for the telnet session, meaning it&#8217;s blank and you need to enter the username <strong>root <\/strong>and hit enter. See below the command.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Telnet 02\" style=\"width: 100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Telnet-02.jpg\" width=\"522\" height=\"309\" data-attachment-id=\"7399\" title=\"Telnet 02\" data-id=\"6307\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The system welcomes you and now you can give commands to navigate in the directories and remove the configuration file (config.dat).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Telnet 03\" style=\"width: 100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Telnet-03.jpg\" width=\"522\" height=\"312\" data-attachment-id=\"7399\" title=\"Telnet 03\" data-id=\"6309\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The commands can tell the OS to execute specific tasks:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;<strong><span style=\"color: rgb(244, 85, 85);\">pwd<\/span><\/strong>&#8221; (print working directory) &#8211;&gt; shows the directory you are reading.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;<strong><span style=\"color: rgb(244, 85, 85);\">cd<\/span><\/strong>&#8221; (change directory) &#8211;&gt; change to a specific folder.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;<strong><span style=\"color: rgb(244, 85, 85);\">ls<\/span><\/strong>&#8221; (list directory) &#8211;&gt; shows the content of the directory.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;<strong><span style=\"color: rgb(244, 85, 85);\">mv<\/span><\/strong>&#8221; (move) &#8211;&gt; move or rename a file.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Just enter the commands below in sequence, be careful with the details just as the dots, etc. See the commands below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"># <strong>pwd <\/strong>&lt;enter&gt;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"># <strong>cd..<\/strong> &lt;enter&gt;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"># <strong>pwd <\/strong>&lt;enter&gt;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"># <strong>ls<\/strong> &lt;enter&gt;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Telnet 04\" style=\"width: 100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Telnet-04-1.jpg\" width=\"522\" height=\"308\" data-attachment-id=\"7399\" title=\"Telnet 04\" data-id=\"6311\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You are halfway. Just continue&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"># <strong>cd<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>mnt&nbsp;<\/strong>&lt;enter&gt;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"># <strong>ls<\/strong> &lt;enter&gt;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"># <strong>cd config<\/strong> &lt;enter&gt;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"># <strong>ls<\/strong> &lt;enter&gt;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Telnet 05\" style=\"width: 100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Telnet-05.jpg\" width=\"520\" height=\"312\" data-attachment-id=\"7399\" title=\"Telnet 05\" data-id=\"6318\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And you are in the correct directory. Can you see the <strong>config.dat <\/strong>file ?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Instead of deleting it, just change its name, so the system can create a new one when you reboot the DVR. See the command to rename the file.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"># <strong>mv config.dat config.dat.old<\/strong> &lt;enter&gt;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Telnet 06\" width=\"522\" height=\"310\" title=\"Telnet 06\" data-id=\"6330\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Telnet-06.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And it&#8217;s done&#8230; Just reboot the DVR with the command below:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"># <strong>reboot<\/strong> &lt;enter&gt;<\/p>\n<p>[tcb-script async=&#8221;&#8221; src=&#8221;\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js&#8221;][\/tcb-script][tcb-script]     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});[\/tcb-script]<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Login into the DVR<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Now the DVR is back to its default configuration and you can login using the credentials admin\/admin. Just like a brand new one, cool huh ?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After the first login, just change the password, and make sure you don&#8217;t lose it because I might not be here again to help you out \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Create a new password for the DVR<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It&#8217;s very important to create a new password to protect your device.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Open the User Management and input a <strong>new password<\/strong> that is strong enough (is recommended to use a combination of letters, number, and symbols).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">( Input the <strong>New Password <\/strong>twice)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Zosi User Management\" width=\"720\" height=\"450\" title=\"Zosi User Management\" data-id=\"5665\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Zozi-User-Management.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span>[tcb-script async=&#8221;&#8221; src=&#8221;\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js&#8221;][\/tcb-script][tcb-script](adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});[\/tcb-script]<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Most common problems<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sometimes the DVR might not respond to the telnet command.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This problem could indicate that the communication between the two devices is not working properly (network connection between computer and DVR).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Make sure the cables are corrected connected and that the computer and DVR are using the correct IP address, which means you have to setup the IP in your computer to match the IP range the DVR is using.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Double check if you selected <strong>telnet <\/strong>and entering the <strong>correct IP <\/strong>in the software.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sometimes the DVR you are using doesn&#8217;t have the telnet service available and won&#8217;t respond to telnet commands on port 23.
