Take a look at the following picture.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision DVR HDD\" width=\"720\" height=\"401\" title=\"Hikvision DVR HDD\" data-id=\"7261\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-DVR-HDD.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You just need to open the recorder to physically install the HDD and connect the power and data cables. It&#8217;s an easy process that doesn&#8217;t require technical skills.<\/p>\n<p><strong>==&gt;<\/strong> To make sure your HDD storage capacity is enough for, I highly recommend you to read the article: <a href=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/bandwidth-and-storage-for-cctv\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bandwidth and storage for CCTV<\/a> to better understand what are the factors that should be considered and I also recommend reading the article: <a href=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/cctv-storage-calculation-formula-and-examples\/\" target=\"_blank\">CCTV Storage Calculation.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">IMPORTANT: &nbsp;You must use a Surveillance Hard Drive that is designed to work with recorders. I recommend Discs from <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2Wn71NM\" target=\"_blank\">Seagate<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2S7fZiY\" target=\"_blank\">Western Digital.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>[tcb-script async=&#8221;&#8221; src=&#8221;\/\/z-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/widgets\/onejs?MarketPlace=US&amp;adInstanceId=3c7ae405-e08a-45cc-9f15-5984eb1ea638&#8243;][\/tcb-script]<\/p>\n<h2>The Hikvision DVR connections<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">OK, you should have all your analog cameras installed and connected to the DVR as shown in the next picture, just make sure you are using good coaxial cables and connectors and the DVR is connected to a monitor via the HDMI or VGA output.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision DVR rear part connection\" width=\"720\" height=\"346\" title=\"Hikvision DVR rear part connection\" data-id=\"7253\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-DVR-rear-part-connection.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">That&#8217;s the minimum you must have to have your Hikvision DVR up and running locally. As you can see in the picture an <strong>HDMI cable<\/strong> is being used but you could also use a VGA monitor, although it&#8217;s not recommended anymore.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[tcb-script async=&#8221;&#8221; src=&#8221;\/\/z-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/widgets\/onejs?MarketPlace=US&amp;adInstanceId=c10dcae2-f723-408b-bafb-3151f7367543&#8243;][\/tcb-script]<\/p>\n<h2>Hikvision DVR setup<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After installing the HDD and connecting the cables, it&#8217;s time to setup your Hikvision DVR. All the configuration is done by using a mouse that can control a menu in the monitor screen. Make sure you have a USB mouse connected.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision DVR\" width=\"400\" height=\"422\" title=\"Hikvision DVR\" data-id=\"5354\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Hikvision-DVR.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Check the DVR Hard Drive<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The first thing you need to do is to make sure the HDD is correctly installed. Just click the screen with the mouse right button and choose &#8220;<strong>Menu<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision DVR Main Menu\" width=\"224\" height=\"265\" title=\"Hikvision DVR Main Menu\" data-id=\"7039\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-DVR-Main-Menu.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Click the HDD button to open the Hard Disc Drive configuration&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision  DVR Main Menu HD\" width=\"600\" height=\"362\" title=\"Hikvision  DVR Main Menu HD\" data-id=\"7281\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-DVR-Main-Menu-HD.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The HDD should appear in the menu. &nbsp;You need to format it to make sure it&#8217;s ready for the footage recording. Select the checkbox and click &#8220;<strong>Init<\/strong>&#8220;.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision DVR Menu HDD Init\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" title=\"Hikvision DVR Menu HDD Init\" data-id=\"7283\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-DVR-Menu-HDD-Init.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A message is displayed on the screen to let you know that all the data will be erased from the HDD. src=&#8221;\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js&#8221;][\/tcb-script][tcb-script]     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});[\/tcb-script]<\/p>\n<h2>Configure the cameras<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It&#8217;s important to configure the cameras to make sure they are connected to the correct channel and also to have the best possible quality.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Hikvision DVR allows you to <strong>setup&nbsp;<\/strong>each camera individually for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211; The technology it&#8217;s using such as HD-TVI, HT-CVI, AHD, CVBS or IP;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211; The information that is being displayed on the screen (On Screen Display);<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211; src=&#8221;\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js&#8221;][\/tcb-script][tcb-script](adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});[\/tcb-script]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Well, let&#8217;s take a look at the camera configuration, open the camera menu.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision DVR Menu Camera\" width=\"600\" height=\"363\" title=\"Hikvision DVR Menu Camera\" data-id=\"7048\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-DVR-Menu-Camera.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Select the type of technology your cameras are using, as described above, the options are TVI, AHD, CVBS or IP cameras (for this DVR model).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision DVR camera menu\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" title=\"Hikvision DVR camera menu\" data-id=\"7309\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-DVR-camera-menu.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you are using Hikvision cameras the default technology is HD-TVI, for Samsung cameras the default technology is AHD, other low-resolution cameras are CVBS.<\/p>\n<p>[tcb-script async=&#8221;&#8221; src=&#8221;\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js&#8221;][\/tcb-script][tcb-script](adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});[\/tcb-script]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Make sure which technology your cameras use and check the boxes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The next step is to <strong>configure the OSD <\/strong>(On Screen Display) which shows some information such as date\/time and camera name on the screen.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision DVR OSD menu\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" title=\"Hikvision DVR OSD menu\" data-id=\"7311\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-DVR-OSD-menu.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The setup is very simple, just select the cameras and check the information you want to display on the screen and change the camera name.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the &#8220;<strong>Image<\/strong>&#8221; menu you can adjust the camera Brightness, Saturation, Contrast, Hue, Sharpness, and Denoising to obtain a better image quality,<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision DVR brightness\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" title=\"Hikvision DVR brightness\" data-id=\"7314\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-DVR-brightness.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you are using a PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) cameras, just open the menu to set the parameters you need. Otherwise, just ignore this menu.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"width: 100%;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hikvision DVR camera menu PTZ\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" title=\"Hikvision DVR camera menu PTZ\" data-id=\"7316\" src=\"https:\/\/learncctv.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Hikvision-DVR-camera-menu-PTZ.jpg\" style=\"width: 100%;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And finally, open the &#8220;<strong>Motion<\/strong>&#8221; menu to setup the camera motion detection.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hikvision DVRs can analyze the image that is coming from the camera to check if there are movements in the scenario.
